Today, I went to IT Hypermarket at Cineleisure, Mutiara Damansara to register for P1 Wimax. Actually, I have been thinking to move from Celcom Broadband to P1 Wimax since two months ago. You can refer to my entry here.
What you need to prepare is just bring your MyKad and also driving license for registration. The registration fee is only RM100. After you have paid the registration fee, you will get the P1 Wimax modem and can start using P1 Wimax after one hour later.
I have been using Celcom broadband for more than one year and six months already. Although Celcom broadband sometimes give me some headache, but I still can struggle and survive until now.
Since Celcom enforcing their Fair Usage Policy on Excessive Usage (page 8 of 10) a few months ago (I think early of this year), it becomes a problem to me. Celcom only provides 5GB data usage monthly. If you exceeded the usage limit, your internet speed will be cut down and it will become slower and slower. At the end, you can only open Yahoo! page in your dream and not with Celcom broadband.
I have make many problem reports to Celcom since the first time I use their broadband service. Every time I make a report, they will solve the problem quickly. They took about one to two days to fix the issue. That is the only reason why I stay with Celcom Broadband.
While looking for some information about Streamyx package, I found something that is so weird.

I think it should be Router and not Rouder. I learned router configuration in my CCNA class. Duh…
Even though you subscribe the 384kbps or 3.6Mbps Celcom 3G broadband package, it does not guarantee that you will get the maximum speed.
Speedtest is a website that allows you to check your broadband speed. When you visit Speedtest website, it will locate your location based on your IP address. Then it will display servers that near to you. The recommended server is mark with yellow. You can choose the recommended server or you can choose other server to start the test.

It will start with the download test first and then it runs the upload test. After both tests are completed, Speedtest will display the result in .gif image which you can use to share on your website or in forum.
Edit: Celcom Broadband 3.6Mbps package is now RM98 monthly. Really cheap, isn’t it?
I just subscribed Celcom broadband last week and that is why you can see that my site has regain it’s health. Because my hostel does not get wireless coverage so I decided to subscribe Celcom broadband so I can get connected to the Internet anywhere I want as long as the area got the network coverage.
Celcom broadband uses 3G network to connect to the Internet. If the area does not have 3G network, don’t worry, you are still be able to connect to the Internet but the speed is slower than you are in the 3G area.
If you subscribe the RM68 package, you will get limited speed which is 384kbps only. But if you have more money to spend for each month, you can subscribe the RM120 package and you will get up to 3.6Mbps speed. But take note, you only will get the speed if you are in the HSDPA area. I’m not sure which area got the HSDPA network because Celcom does not put the covered map on their website. So I don’t have any clue whether my place is in the HSDPA area.
