Edit: Celcom Broadband 3.6Mbps package is now RM98 monthly. Really cheap, isn’t it?
I just subscribed Celcom broadband last week and that is why you can see that my site has regain it’s health. Because my hostel does not get wireless coverage so I decided to subscribe Celcom broadband so I can get connected to the Internet anywhere I want as long as the area got the network coverage.
Celcom broadband uses 3G network to connect to the Internet. If the area does not have 3G network, don’t worry, you are still be able to connect to the Internet but the speed is slower than you are in the 3G area.
If you subscribe the RM68 package, you will get limited speed which is 384kbps only. But if you have more money to spend for each month, you can subscribe the RM120 package and you will get up to 3.6Mbps speed. But take note, you only will get the speed if you are in the HSDPA area. I’m not sure which area got the HSDPA network because Celcom does not put the covered map on their website. So I don’t have any clue whether my place is in the HSDPA area.
HSDPA is stands for High-Speed Downlink Packet Access which is it is a new protocol in mobile telecommunication. In simple word, we can call it as 3.5G. I don’t subscribe the RM120 package because it is expensive and I don’t think that I can afford it because I am still a student though. To pay RM120 just to use Internet is not reasonable. It is better if I use thr RM120 to eat KFC or go watching movies. :p
But there is another reason why I didn’t subscribe the RM120 package. If I subscribe the RM120 package and I live outside from the HSDPA area, it will be useless because I will only get around 700kbps. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Just want to let you know, Celcom broadband packages does not come with device/modem. If you subscribe Maxis broadband, you will get free modem even though you subscribe their RM68 package. But I heard many complaints from their customers saying that their service is not good and so do their customer support.
You can buy the device from Celcom but is expensive. I thought the modem is around RM200-RM400 but I was wrong. You can get a datacard with only RM399 but the datacard is only can be used on laptop. Unfortunately, I’m using desktop so I need to buy the USB modem which I need to pay about RM1100. RM1100 is not easy to get for a student. But thanks to my ex-boss, En Mizan the manager of Mercumaya, a web hosting provider company because he agreed to sell me the USB modem to me with installment and with cheaper price. :d
The USB modem can support up to 3.6Mbps but because I subscribe the RM68 package, so I only can get 384kbps, maximum speed. But sometimes the speed is even slower compare with dial-up. Sometimes I get around 50kbps to 80kbps which is a little bit faster than dial-up but I paid RM68 monthly so I must get the top speed as possible. I hope Celcom can improve their services so all Malaysian will use their services.
If you don’t know which package that you want to subscribe, it is better to consult with their customer service. But if you want to go for Maxis, think twice. 😉 Because I still recommended you to choose Celcom broadband.
ps: If you have 3G handphone, you can use it as modem and connect it to your PC. From that, you can surf the Internet but the speed is slower, around 170kbps.

kalau kat tempat yang takde 3G, celcom cuma boleh provide gprs.speed pun around secara praktikalnya 50kbps je.tapi kalau guna maxis boleh dapat gprs atau edge.edge secara praktikalnya boleh dapat almost 100kbps.coverage gprs untuk maxis dan celcom memang nationwide.cuma edge untuk maxis tu kat certain tempat je..
secara logiknya memang beza.sebab handphone tu kecik dan ada macam2 function selain surf internet.so the 3G function is quite limited especially for p2p.modem ni plak memang direka untuk transfer data.dah nama pun modem (modulator & demodulator).antenna untuk handphone kecik,dan coverage nya tak tertumpu.senang dapat signal tapi data rate tak tinggi.antenna untuk modem besar,dan coverage nya tertumpu.susah nak dapat signal(kena ada tower 3G) tapi data rate tinggi. 🙂

yup..u can still switch to the most stable spectrum such as gprs except it’s slower than 3g. i dont know but i havent yet find any usb modem below rm500. the cheapest maybe still around rm6XX.. 😛

i cant guarantee u mecry..it depends on your living area (or places where u want to heavily dload or gaming) actually.in some places, celcom might d best.other places, maxis bb probably better.other broadband providers can be considered gud too..like penangfon is gud in penang, izzi looks good in klang valley as well as airzed or p1. 🙂

yersterday,i went to celcom branch in seremban,and u know what..the usb modem cost rm999 !so expensive..and today i search in ebay it just cost rm600++ ..so can i buy from this n reg package at celcom?

Just want 2 ask u couple of question…
1) Bout the maxis bb, they have 18 month contract rite..what is the main purpose for this contract? what would happen after 18 month?
2)Maxis will rent us the modem since it was in the package. so it means we need to returned the modem after certain period rite?What would happen if we dont return it?
3)I heard from my friend that maxis bb have limit height..they said if u stay at 3 floor, the coverage will get weaker n weaker as u move up. is it true? how bout celcom bb?
i hope someone can help me to solve this problem…
1) purpose of contract – so that u wont run away from them, even if the service is not satisfying. usually they will renew the contract but u can ask for termination weeks before the contract ends.
2) yes u have to return it back.but i’m not sure what kind of penalty will be imposed if u dont return it.
3)i think it’s 5th floor actually.u can give a visit to any maxis bb booth n take a look at the coverage map. u will notice that there will b no hsdpa coverage in the KLCC area since it’s a skyscraper’s territory. 😛

for maxis, i already ask them ‘is it download p2p also unlimited’
the promoter say to me slowly and say that the p2p download you just can get 3gb per month…

Aku ade masalah sket la dgn celcom bb nie. Aku dah langgan yg RM 68 tu then dah beli usb modem Huawei. Dulu mase connect dgn hp boleh dpt 115 kbps. Skg bile gune Huawei, aku connect dgn 3G preferred, connection ade. Tapi nak bukak web tak boleh. apesal tah?
Aku tukar setting gune GPRS preferred pon same gak. Last2 gune GPRS Only. Speed 53.6 kbps je! Slow gile. Baru bole bukak web.
Ade sape2 boleh tolong… mcm mane nak buat ni? Rugi je beli Huawei tu mahal2 kalau speed slow gile mcm tu. Baik gune hp je.

pukul 5 pagi baru speed sampai 375kbps
pukul 6.30 drop sehingga 170 kbps
pukul 7.30 150 kbps
pukul 8.00 53 kbps
sampai pukul 2.30 pagi baru naik 170 kbps
takkanlah kita nak surf, download lima pagi.. baik celcom atau maxis sekarang ni masih lagi teruk connection. kalau dulu data card ni harga mula-mulanya rm2500, turun 68, sepatutnya tukarlah nama dia jugak…….. kugiranband 53kbps..
tak payah beli untuk sekarang ni. tunggu setahun lagi, mungkin bagus, atau mungkin sama juga. surf di cybercaffe lease lagi puas hati,, cuma rm 2 ringgit sahaja..

Saya nak syorkan Celcom memperbanyakan coverage. Sebab dah ramai pegguna mengunakan BB. Saya adalah merupakan seorang pelanggan BB Celcom D68. Masa mulax beli ok skrg dah tak ok nak dptkan HSDPA seksa nak mampus….so bila dapat serve internet tak smp 2 minit dah out coverage….Untuk maklumat sy pakai USB Modem 7.2Mbps (Model Huewei E220) – Automatic detect
I just subscribed to the Celcom 3G Broadband on 1st May.The speed not bad.(7.2Mbps).Oh, by the way I am staying in Kuching, supposedly to be an HSDPA area…

takde beza ape2 sebenarnya. cuma celcom order dari manufacturer asal dan letak logo celcom kat atas modem tu.
sama macam maxis order huawei e220 & letak logo maxis bb kat atas modem tu. sama gak macam vodafone order huawei pcmcia & letak logo vodafone atas datacard tu.
la diorangpakai letak logo je…

kepada sesiapa saja… berapa bandwidth celcom untuk sebulan.. saya dah banyak download sampai 40 gig…. lepas tu connection turun 56kbps.. kalau maxis setahu saya limit 3 gig sahaja.. terima kasih you all..

ustaz – limit untuk celcom 5GB tapi cuma masa traffic congest je.contohnya weekend atau waktu malam.time biasa takde limit.saya ngan 4 orang kawan pun bergig-gig download.

y la dey?? too many people said they can afford to buy 3g equipment. the cheapest way is like this:
1. buy 3g card, can support speed up to 3.6mbps but at price rm 300 only.
2. it fix well with laptop as it aleady got card slot, but for pc u can buy that card slot separately, because that card slot is not in high demand product, many pc shop sell it very cheap, around rm80 is the standard price. Go negotiate.
3. live life to the cheapest!!!!!!
