Know what? Right now I am in Ubuntu 8.04. Huray! ;))
The upgrade was pretty smooth without any problems except Compiz. But the issue had been settled. The problem was occurred because,
It seems AMD’s scripts to build an Ubuntu package for 7.10 include a diversion for /etc/xdg/compiz/compiz-manager so they can add fglrx to the list of supported drivers. The problem is that they don’t remove this diversion on upgrade/uninstall so when you upgrade to Ubuntu 8.04 the /etc/xdg/compiz/compiz-manager file will no longer exist and compiz will not start.
So what I did to fix the problem was, enter
in the terminal and the problem gone. Thanks to Travis Watkins for the fix.
So guys, when do you want to upgrade your Ubuntu? 😀
what is your opinion of dual booting Ubuntu and Windows XP on the same hard drive?
It is ok but, if the boot loader got problem, you will unable to boot into Windows or Ubuntu. So my suggestion is, make dual boot from two hard drives. If one of the boot loader got problem, you still can use the other hard drive to boot to the operating system. 🙂
I’m waiting to buy myself a Thinkpad on which I will run Ubuntu Hardy Heron. I will run VirtualBox to support my Windows apps.
Cool! My friend also want to buy a laptop. He said that buy laptop without any OS installed (he want to install Ubuntu) is much cheaper if you buy a laptop with Windows.
Iam downloading it right away.
great news! however my built in wifi does not work in hardy, which I didn’t encounter any problem with Gutsy. I have an Intel Pro/Wireless 3945 Network Connection in an HP dv5000.
Just completed my download this morning. Install coming soon.
Bit somehow i still prefer openSUSE 🙂
