Edit: Celcom Broadband 3.6Mbps package is now RM98 monthly. Really cheap, isn’t it?

I just subscribed Celcom broadband last week and that is why you can see that my site has regain it’s health. Because my hostel does not get wireless coverage so I decided to subscribe Celcom broadband so I can get connected to the Internet anywhere I want as long as the area got the network coverage.
Celcom broadband uses 3G network to connect to the Internet. If the area does not have 3G network, don’t worry, you are still be able to connect to the Internet but the speed is slower than you are in the 3G area.
If you subscribe the RM68 package, you will get limited speed which is 384kbps only. But if you have more money to spend for each month, you can subscribe the RM120 package and you will get up to 3.6Mbps speed. But take note, you only will get the speed if you are in the HSDPA area. I’m not sure which area got the HSDPA network because Celcom does not put the covered map on their website. So I don’t have any clue whether my place is in the HSDPA area.

HSDPA is stands for High-Speed Downlink Packet Access which is it is a new protocol in mobile telecommunication. In simple word, we can call it as 3.5G. I don’t subscribe the RM120 package because it is expensive and I don’t think that I can afford it because I am still a student though. To pay RM120 just to use Internet is not reasonable. It is better if I use thr RM120 to eat KFC or go watching movies. :p
But there is another reason why I didn’t subscribe the RM120 package. If I subscribe the RM120 package and I live outside from the HSDPA area, it will be useless because I will only get around 700kbps. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Just want to let you know, Celcom broadband packages does not come with device/modem. If you subscribe Maxis broadband, you will get free modem even though you subscribe their RM68 package. But I heard many complaints from their customers saying that their service is not good and so do their customer support.
You can buy the device from Celcom but is expensive. I thought the modem is around RM200-RM400 but I was wrong. You can get a datacard with only RM399 but the datacard is only can be used on laptop. Unfortunately, I’m using desktop so I need to buy the USB modem which I need to pay about RM1100. RM1100 is not easy to get for a student. But thanks to my ex-boss, En Mizan the manager of Mercumaya, a web hosting provider company because he agreed to sell me the USB modem to me with installment and with cheaper price. :d

The USB modem can support up to 3.6Mbps but because I subscribe the RM68 package, so I only can get 384kbps, maximum speed. But sometimes the speed is even slower compare with dial-up. Sometimes I get around 50kbps to 80kbps which is a little bit faster than dial-up but I paid RM68 monthly so I must get the top speed as possible. I hope Celcom can improve their services so all Malaysian will use their services.

If you don’t know which package that you want to subscribe, it is better to consult with their customer service. But if you want to go for Maxis, think twice. ๐ Because I still recommended you to choose Celcom broadband.
ps: If you have 3G handphone, you can use it as modem and connect it to your PC. From that, you can surf the Internet but the speed is slower, around 170kbps.
I heard Maxis broadband better than celcom.. according to wangcyber forum. However this is defend on you.. happy blogging
could you tell us how stable it is? Does it get disconnected if you are not in a moving
Also try gaming with it if you play game online..:)
Bent – Maybe Maxis has upgraded their system. Not sure though.
Rice Blogger – So far, it is stable. I can leave my downloads in one night and the next morning when I woke up, the downloads have finished. And yeah, it will disconnect if there is no activity in half an hour.
Oops, think I should have asked your permission first before posting an excerpt of your post on my blog?
Well, can I?
As long as you put my link on the article is ok. ๐
dude…hope your 370KBPS don drop in near future…
mine one now have 1M plus (i feel weired too)… but the speed are getting slower and slower as time goes by…
The speed sometimes drop to 80kbps. I am not sure how it can happen. Usually it happens at midnight. Maybe there are many peoples leave their computer downloading something.
hey….how much is the setup fee? n do i need a fixed landphone line at home for celcom broadband connection………if so it kills the foreigners with high setup charge.
RM1100 is not a reasonable price. these business people are crazy! I wonder what the price will be for the next WiMAX technology.
sabochii – There is no setup fee. All you need to pay is just for the 3G sim card. Celcom comes in two packages, RM68 (384kbps) and RM120 (3.2Mbps). You no need to have fixed phone line but you must have a 3G phone or 3G modem/datacard.
TechMalaya – Ha3. That is why I didn't buy the modem at the first place.
I just subscribed to the Celcom 3G Broadband – the RM68/month thing. Since then, connection was slow, i mean, really, really slow, which is absolutely ridiculous and utterly unacceptable. I need to complain, but any idea to whom?
Oh, by the way I am staying in Penang, supposedly to be an
HSDPA area.
Best regards,
Zainal
What device do you use to connect to the broadband? If Huawei, you can set it to always connect to 3G network. And it also will display whether you are in UMTS or GPRS area. UMTS is much faster than GPRS because it is use for 3G network. If the speed is still slow, I suggest you go to Celcom centre and ask for help. ๐
okay lah boleh tahan
Ok, thanks for the permission dude.
Bro… pengalaman saya gune Celcom broadband gune modem tu agak pelahan… tapi bile saya gune handset N-Siri misalnya N80 or N70 dia leh jejak >480kbps…. kalo gune pcmcia or usb modem tu memang dia tetap….
Setakat ni puas hati tak pakai?
rasso – Tapi pengalaman aku pulak adalah, guna hanset lagi lambat dari guna USB modem tu. Hu3.
Sharizal – Setakat ni ok la walaupun kadang-kadang lambat jugak. Maybe seba tengah guna IDM kot. Tu pasal lambat connection.
One thing i dont like maxis and celcom broadband is that they say that their package is unlimited but actually they are bluffing. Their packages have a limit of 3gb of download/upload bandwith. If you dont believe it, go to their website and read the policy…
Which page? Celcom website is not user friendly. Why they want to use flash for a corporate website. Duh…
aku sekarang gune maxis bb. masalah yang amat ketara adalah selalu sgt signal die tetibe tuka jadik gprs, n mengeluarkan bunyi yg bising. huhu..n then, connection die kat vista x stabil.. selalu unindentifed network.. pergh.. td speed die ok la kalo time ok.. huhu
nice…seems to be very food alternative to streamyx
o – Tak boleh set untuk always connect to 3G ke? Macam Huawei kite boleh set samada nak connect to 3G atau GPRS.
Rice Blogger – Yeah, it is really an alternative to streamyx but not really fast la. :d

@CyberHackz Mmg da set, tp die cam sendrik tuka.. tgh syok2 gune.. adeiii
Hi, wanna ask sth. I now stay at Kuantan and i heard it got 3G coverage and i not so sure. Wat i wanna ask is if i now go apply celcom broadband, wic package should i choose? Anything else i should pay? I got 3G phone, Nokia 6280 and can it acted like modem???
It is better to confirm with Celcom first that Kuantan got 3G HSDPA network. You can start with 384kbps package (RM68 monthly) and if you think Kuantan got HSDPA, then you can upgrade to 3.6Mbps package (RM120 monthly). But I am not so sure whether your phone can act as modem.
OK, i try ask the Celcom. I got try my hp as modem and on9 for i think 10 second. Then, i check my credit, use RM7 aledi. @.@
So, should i told celcom tat i using my ho as modem and juz need the package?
my problem is my static ip. should i make a complain to celcom? cuz from their brochure it spose to be dynamic ip. i took 68ringgit package. pls help ๐
The client IP is dynamic but when you surf website, you will connect through their proxy. That is why you will see your IP is static when you check at http://www.whatismyip.com
the worse nightmare I ever had. I wish I never subscribe to them.
i haerd that izzi broadband is more cheap and fats speed, check it out at
http://www.izzzi.com.my
U.Mobile lagi cheaap la RM68 or 3.6
Jimmy – May I know why?
jiji – I try to open that page but server not found.
i hear U.Mobile bradband are very cheapla RM68 for 3.6
it is http://www.izzi.com.my
hi..
kl boleh sy nk jd pengguna bb..
sy nk tahu lebih detail tntng prosedur bb..
dr segi pembayaran n pembelian
hi cute,
kalau u nak jadi pengguna bb, i nasihatkan u amik pakej Celcom RM 68(384).Kalau u puas hati than mengikut coverage tempat you than u upgrade your package to 3.6(rm120). Upgrade fee only RM 10(celcom) berbanding RM 20(maxis). Usb modem itu you boleh beli dalam 5 hingga ke 7 ratus ringgit(the best model). I buat macam ini jugak after i tried out Maxis. Maxis cekik darah. setelah i buat comparison celcom not the best but better than maxis. sekiranya later Digi kluar dgn 3g you boleh terminate celcom dan guna digi dengan modem yang sama.
HUAWEI tu USB modem ke? Beli kat celcom brapa harga? Saya tanya aritu kat customer srvice celcom, die ckp mesti ada account postpaid celcom baru leh suscribe unlimitedRM68 tuh btul ke? xpaham le prosedur die, ada sesapa leh tolong terangkan?
manoj – Thanks for the explanation. ๐
Aah. Sebab harga dia tu termasuk sekali ngan pakej broadband. Saya punye list harga tu ada dekat kawan saya. Kalau tak boleh saya bagitahu pada awak.
If laptop, akan gune datacard. Datacard ni murah je. Dalam RM400 pun leh dapat. If untuk PC, gune USB modem sebab PC takde slot untuk datacard. Tapi yang USB modem ni la mahal. Sampai RM1000 lebih harga dia.
CypherHackz – oic, byr bulan rm68 tuh bkn termasuk postpaid la kan? saya xberminat ngan postpaid dia. "DATAcard" tuh perlu sim 3G ke? plan postpaid rm30 blh suscribe rm68 gak? jd monthly dier RM98? Camtu la kan?
Yang RM68 tu adalah bayaran yang fix yang mesti dibayar setiap bulan. Yup, yang datacard tu perlu Sim 3G untuk boleh beroperasi. Btw saya tak pasti la yang Rm30 tu leh subscribe yang pakej RM68 tu sebab yang saya guna sekarang ni just untuk data jer. Takleh nak buat call or SMS. Maksudnye, setiap bulan saya just bayar RM68 untuk gune internet selama sebulan.
Celcom broadband is bullsh*t i try the rm8 24 hour but i get only 5-7kb to slow i even can’t open google. Celcom suck!
What device that you use to connect to the internet?
bleh x masukkan datacard kat desktop, so xyah beli modem dier yang mahal tuh
Right now we can't use datacard onto desktop because there are no slot for it. ๐
sapa yg dok kat utm..mcm mana dengan line celcom broadband esxpecially kat area kolej yang jauh2 mcm kolej 14,15,16,17..
Tak tahu samada kat sana ok atau tak. Tapi kat KTC dengan KP memang ok. Takde masalah. Lagi-lagi pencawang die dekat FKE. Hu3.
i think celcom broadband is better, you can see the comparison between celcom broadband and maxis broadband at this site http://myblog.qubixdesign.com
from the comparison, i can conclude it is much more better to subsribe celcom broadband.
beside the usb modem,is there any usb modem that can support?bcos the usb modem here selling price is rm899.too expensive for me to but it.im using handphone to connect my laptop.
#epool86 – That is why I recommend celcom here. ๐
#lerry – You can use datacard. You can ask Celcom. They sell it for RM400 something.
