Yahoo! Messenger is my primary instant messenger client that I use whether I at home or at the office. But in this new version, Yahoo! Messenger is using new alert sounds and personally, I don’t like them. I’m more preferred using the old sounds. But how we can get them? 
Here I will share with you on how you can get the old Yahoo! Messenger sounds back.
- First, you need to download this file (415.79 KB).
- Then, double click the file and click Unzip
- Click Ok when you get this notification, “21 file(s) unzipped successfully”.
- Click Close to close WinZip Self-Extractor
All the old alert sounds are now successfully saved in your Yahoo! Messenger media folder. You can change and use the old alert sounds from Messenger > Preferences > Alerts & Sounds.

can someone help me plz i cant find the sounds/alerts i just downloaded. i did everything he said to do but i cant find them in my yahoo media folder in the preferences if i downloaded 21 new sounds or w.e then shouldnt there be 21 or 20 new sounds? idk plz help me i need my old IM sounds back i hate the new ones

about 3 months or think maybe 4 months ago i tried to get them to work also but they don’t…I’ve also talked to the admin “cyberhackz” and I’m pretty sure he/she doesnt know what the hell they are talking about cuz they still don’t work for me..and they havent gotten back to me about it either…sadly. but yea..sorry but a lot of others say it don’t work on forums on other sites. this is a bogey so…yea…

I too followed the steps to download the old yahoo messenger sounds and they don’t work with the 9.0 version.

To all you people who don’t think that the sounds work:
These are “wave” files that will play with any media program such as WMP or YM9.0. When unzipping, if you are asked whether to replace a new file with an older one, answer “YES.” Then go into YM “Preferences” under the “Messenger” menu and pull up “Alerts and Sounds.” Select the function you want to change, browse to the “Media” folder where the sounds are located, make your selection, click the play button to test it, and then click “update” when you are done. A little bit of work but what did you expect? Works great if you pay attention to what is going on and think about what you’re trying to do.
