5 Tips for Directory Submission

There are many web directories out there. Some of them are paid directories and some are free directories. Both will give you the backlinks you want. To submit your website to directories is not easy like you think. You need an effort, time, money (if you choose to submit to paid directories), and ready to get rejected if you neglected the guidelines. So here are my tips on how to submit your websites to directories.

1. Paid directories or free directories

As we know, both will give us the backlinks to our website. The only difference is we need to pay some amount of money for paid directories. It depends on you to choose. Usually paid directories have good quality of links and have good PR on their inner pages. That is why they can charge you for each link you submitted.

But if you don’t have money or don’t like to pay just to have a link to a web directory, you can choose free directories. Some require you to put a reciprocal link on your website and some are not. For me, I will choose free directories which do not require putting a reciprocal link. There are many free directories which give free submission. At the end of this entry, I have listed some of web directories that give you free submission without reciprocal link.

2. Choose the right category

After you have chosen which directories you want to submit, you need to choose the right category for your website. Don’t just submit your link at the top category level. Usually directory owner will reject top category submission because only featured links are allowed to be there. But it is still depend on the guidelines though. I will explain about the guidelines after this. To be safe, find suitable category for your website and submit.

Here is an example. Let say you want to submit a technology blog. So find Blog category and choose Technology from the list. But if there is no Technology category, choose other appropriate category. Computer category will do. But make sure that the category is related to your website.

3. Follow the guidelines

Each directory has their own guidelines. It is really crucial to read the guidelines before you filling the form. Some directory owners love to write long list of what to do and what not to do. You need to read the guidelines carefully. Some directories only accept English websites. Some only accept domain names. So better you read the guidelines first. You don’t want to get rejected, would you?

4. Meaningful title and description

After you have read the guidelines, it is time to fill the submission form. In title form, it is better to put your website’s name. Don’t put anything other than that. Let say your website title is “Malaysia Tech Blog”, so write it into the form. Don’t use other keyword like “The best Malaysia Tech Blog”, “Please visit Malaysia Tech Blog”. It does not mean anything. In fact, you might be get rejected once the directory owner see the title. If the directory owner does not mention in the guidelines, it is ok to have that. But for me, it is better to stick with your website title.

Description is optional in almost web directories. But I prefer to put my website description to let people get a brief idea about my website. Some web directories allow you to write about 500 words, some only give you 30 words. You need to write your website description correctly. The uppercase-lowercase use must be correct. The number of words count must be less than the allowed number.

Then, enter your URL, your name and email. Make sure your email is correct because web directories will send you an email to inform you if your link is approved or rejected. We need this information for the next tip.

5. Make a list

After you have submitted your link to a web directory, copy the website link into a text editor or Excel. Why do we need this? Well, it is to make sure that you will not submit your website to the same directory twice.

You will get an email from the directory if your link is accepted or rejected. Use the information given to your list. If your website is accepted, tick the directory link in your list. If it got rejected, cross the directory from the list.

With the list you have, you can use it to submit your other websites. Find which directory has accepted your website and submit another websites to the directory. But it is better to have different list for different website you submitted. It is more organizeable.

Free Web Directories

Below is the list of free web directory which has accepted my submissions. All of them are free and need no reciprocal at the time I write this. I will update the list if I found more free web directories with no reciprocal link.

If the web directory requires you to put the reciprocal link or there is no free submission, you can contact me to inform about it. So I can remove the directory from the list.

I do not know what makes me to search for “Are you a hacker?” on Google and found this website which give good quote or poem or text about Are You a Hacker? Read it and you will know how deep does it mean.

Take a little quiz for me today. Tell me if you fit this description. You got your net account several months ago. You have been surfing the net, and you laugh at those media reports of the information superhighway. You have a red box, you don’t have to pay for phone calls. You have crackerjack, and you have run it on the password file at a unix you got an account on. Everyone at your school is impressed by your computer knowledge, you are the one the teachers ask for help.

Does this sound like you? You are not a hacker. There are thousands of you out there. You buy 2600 and you ask questions. You read phrack and you ask questions. You join #hack and you ask questions. You ask all of these questions, and you ask what is wrong with that? After all, to be a hacker is to question things, is it not? But, you do not want knowledge. You want answers. You do not want to learn how things work. You want answers. You do not want to explore. All you want to know is the answer to your damn questions.

You are not a hacker. Hacking is not about answers. Hacking is about the path you take to find the answers. If you want help, don’t ask for answers, ask for a pointer to the path you need to take to find out those answers for yourself. Because it is not the people with the answers that are the hackers, it is the people that are travelling along the path.

If you are in part of the hacker community, you will know what the last sentence means. It is really nice text btw. I really enjoy reading this.

Is PR and Alexa rank important?

After my site was removed from Google SERP (only index page effected), everything has changed. The recent Google PR update gives me PR0. I heard that many of other bloggers facing the same problem because they sell link ads on their website. Google has changed their PR algorithm and the changes have effect many blog sand websites who do the link selling. It is kind of a penalty for those who use the advantages of their high PR.

PR drop will affect my website revenue. Link selling is my second incomes after Adsense. But because Google has dropped my PR, so my earning will decrease too. That’s mean, I need to find other way to increase back my earnings. But the question is how?

Not only PR, my Alexa ranking also dropped. Before this, my site was around 50K but now it is 90K. Maybe because I removed the Alexa ranking code from my new theme but does Alexa rank is important for your site? If your main money income is from Text Link Ads, for sure it is important. Because Text Link Ads use many criteria to set the prices for each links sold on your website. Some of it is, Alexa rank.

After thinking awhile, relax and sit back, drinking some water and eat “kuih raya”, I do think that PR and Alexa is not important anymore. They are important if you want to do the link selling but because Google has using their new algorithm for PR, we as publishers cannot use our high PR to get profit from it.

So, what should you do? Just focus on your blog content and get many traffics and popularity as you can. Good luck!

ayang nak mintak kebenaran abang untuk bawa anak-anak balik ke kampung. abang tak perlu hantar ayang sebab ayang mampu untuk bawa anak-anak ke kampung musim cuti sekolah ni dengan bas.. abang jagalah diri abang dan kereta abang baik-baik… cuma ada perkara yang ingin ayang luahkan disini… kereta baru abang tu mahal.. harga mencecah 100k barangkali..

sebab tu abang sayangkan kereta abang lebih dari ayang.. sampaikan abang dah terlena dalam kereta abang tu sejak abang beli 3 bulan yang lalu dah masuk 3 malam… abang sayangkan kereta abang lebih dari ayang, nak tau ngape?

harga kereta abang tu lebih mahal dari wang hantaran yang ayah ayang letakan masa kita kahwin dulu.. cuba hantaran ayang lebih mahal dari harga kereta abang?

tiap-tiap pagi abang mesti gosok kereta abang, nak nampak berkilat..tapi ayang nak dapat kiss g.morning pun susah

sejak beli kereta tu, sebulan sekali macam-macam aksesori abang beli kat kereta, ayang nak dapat hadiah besday setahun sekali pun susah..

bukan lah abang sayang keta tu lebih dr ayang.. tapi ayang kene faham keta tu keta bos abang nnti kalau ilang sapa nak ganti..
ayang abang suruh keja ayang xnak, ayang kata nak dok umah jaga anak,nak siap kan sarapan nak kemas umah tapi ayang tiap2 hari bgn tido kul 12.. macam mana nak wat keja umah..
cuba lah ayang pk mana x abang tido dalam keta.. abang balik keja lambat skit ayang dah kunci pintu..bukan nye abang gi foya2 kan …abang gi keja…
lagi satu pasal piza yang ayang ngidam tu.. ayang nak piza yg di oder dr jepun.. mana lah abang ada duit nak oder.. abang nak bg apam balik yg jual kat depan ofis abang ni ayang xnak, ayang nak jugak piza dr jepun.. nasib baik abang x belikan kalau x anak kedua kita tu mesti muka cam doremon..ish xnak laa abang..
pasal hadiah kan abang dah belikan tapi abang sembunyi kan kat dapur.. ayang yang tersalah buang ingatkan sampah.. tu lah abang suruh kemas umah tu ayang kata umah kita dah bersih tapi hadiah dgn sampah pun dah jadi serupa jek..hadiah tu mahal tau abang beli untuk ayang..
